Growth
Capstone Project
This project will feature a collection of five embroidery hoops that follow the first five stages of Erik Erikson’s stages of development. These five stages will each be represented by a flower, chosen for its deeper meaning that relates to each stage. The first hoop represents the first stage, Trust vs Mistrust, and will feature the Iris flower. The second stage, Autonomy vs Shame/Doubt, will be represented by the strelitzia flower. The third stage, Initiative vs Guilt, will be represented by the marigold flower. The fourth stage, Industry vs Inferiority, will be represented by the hollyhock flower, and the final stage, Identity vs Role Confusion, will be represented by the lotus flower. These will be created by using traditional methods of embroidery stitches, as well as exploring the inclusion of found and unusual materials. This will hopefully encourage people to think about their own personal growth.
